5 Reasons to “Productize” Your Knowledge

I’m a huge proponent of “productizing”.

Meaning… taking knowledge and experience from your life and turning it into consumable content that is valuable to other people whether or not you are physically present!

The income reasons are only 20% of the equation.

This video explains the 100% view…

    Justin,

I think you’ve hit the nail on the head with your reasons to productize – and I will let you get away with inventing a new word. :)

Refreshingly, it’s not all about the money with you. It’s also about helping others and using your time wisely.

You’re eloquent and convincing. Nice to see someone who’s not just talking the talk but actually walking the walk too. And doing it well. Very.

Thanks Debbie. Your comments pretty much rule!! But I definitely appreciate the feedback and I’m glad you agree with the actual 5 reasons here. They are huge!

A second follow up regarding “its not all about money”.

My motivation is definitely not just money. I love so many aspects of what I do.

The life of my “business” is MOSTLY about the money if I’m being honest.

But the person running that business knows that the money is a RESULT of delivering value, establishing trust, maintaining credibility, etc..

Any business person worth her salt (or even his!) is in it for the money as a central and motivating factor.

If that were not the case, we would all set ourselves up as non-profits.

There’s nothing wrong with earning money. And decent money at that.

And I totally agree with you that how that money is earned is the critical element. Providing real value and a quality product is what it’s all about.

And it’s how great businesses grow.

You nailed it, Justin. The only problem I am seeing with people not productizing ( I like the word ;) )is they don’t thing that they know something worthy OR they do know that they know but not in a real “expert” point of view. So my point is that we all need to productize, even though if that’s just as basic as WP installation as you mentioned it in a video. We will eventually move forward and get to the expert field one point in time…we just need to take those first steps!
Based on that I am 100% sure that you’ll teach someone the skill.
So thanks again for your words of wisdom and take care.
    Regards,
    Denis

      Hey Denis
Glad you liked the video… and the new word ;)

I literally think in terms of “productizing” now. I ask myself “how can I package this piece of knowledge up so it can be replicated in my absence?”

It is really powerful from the perspective of scale. You are freeing up your time to do other (usually revenue generating) activities. Thanks for your comment
